Devan Elayda Hit, Killed by Hit-and-Run Car on Highway 180 near Cedar Avenue

 
FRESNO, CA (November 29, 2021) Devan Elayda died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 180 near Cedar Avenue on Saturday.
 
According to Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal accident happened around 2:50 a.m. Saturday. For unknown reasons, Devan Nicole Elayda pulled the vehicle over and exited the car before stepping into the eastbound lane. Subsequently, an oncoming vehicle, described as a silver or gray Lexus, struck the 23-year-old Fresno woman.
 
Shortly after, officers responded and tried rendering aid, but efforts fell short and the Fresno State student from Hollister died at the scene.
 
At this time, police have no information on the driver who left the scene and why Elayda stepped into the lanes. However, detectives believe she wanted to switch seats with a passenger prior to the crash.
