Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Dies after Early Morning Crash in San Jacinto
SAN JACINTO, CA (May 15, 2023) – Deputy Brett Harris was killed in a two-vehicle accident in San Jacinto early Friday morning on May 12.
The fatal accident happened around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and State Street. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by a a 56-year-old Hemet woman slammed into the back of Harris’ patrol car.
Harris was responding to a call for backup when the crash happened. He suffered critical injuries from the crash including a catastrophic brain injury. He later died at the hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle had moderate injuries.
Another deputy responding to the scene was also hurt while attempting to extricate Harris. He was treated for a knee injury and released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
