David Wensloff Killed in Pedestrian Accident on College Avenue and Mendocino Avenue

SANTA ROSA, CA (March 17, 2022) — A homeless man identified as 57-year-old David Allen Wensloff, of San Luis Obispo, died in a crash.

The incident happened at College Avenue and Mendocino Avenue at around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17. Wensloff was at the southwest corner of the intersection. Then he started walking north across College Avenue.

A 26-year-old Santa Rosa man driving west in a Toyota Rav4 hit Wensloff who was in the right lane of College.

Investigators are trying to find out if Wensloff was in a crosswalk. They are also determining if speed played a role during the crash.

Sgt. Chris Mahurin, a Santa Rosa Police spokesman, said that the evidence shows the driver had a green light. The pedestrian walked against a red light, Mahurin added.

Medics rushed Wensloff via an ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he died.

The driver cooperated with investigators. They did not suspect him of intoxicated driving. They released him after police questioning.

Our sincerest sympathies to the loved ones of David Wensloff.
