Pedestrian Dies after Struck by DUI Hit-and-Run Driver in Barstow

 
BARSTOW, CA (July 12, 2022) – Daryl Curtis Oliver was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash in Barstow early Saturday morning, July 9.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:25 a.m. at the intersection of Armory Road and Monterey Avenue. According to the Barstow Police Department, Oliver was walking in the area when a vehicle struck him.
 
After the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
Officers patrolling the area found Oliver lying in the roadway with major injuries to his head. They immediately administered first aid to him and requested emergency medical services.
 
Barstow Fire Protection District arrived for additional medical assistance. Despite all life saving measures, Oliver died dead at the scene.
 
Officers at the scene found debris from the involved car. Through investigation, police determined the debris belong to an older model Suzuki Grant Vitara.
 
Around 8:30 p.m., police later located the suspect, 52-year-old Reginald Vance Ward of Barstow. They arrested and booked him on a $250,000 bail.
 
An investigation is underway.
