Daniel Vega, Catarino Torres Jr. Involved in Deadly Two-Car Crash on 5 Freeway near 580 Freeway

 
PATTERSON, CA (March 4, 2021) — Daniel Vega and Catarino Torres Jr. were involved in a fatal two-car accident on the 5 Freeway near 580 Freeway Wednesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash happened around 1:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, Vega’s Toyota reportedly sustained a flat tire. As he tried to slow down and pull toward the center divider, a crash occurred.
 
Per reports, 27-year-old Torres Jr. admitted to reaching for an item in his 2019 Hito box truck when his vehicle collided with the rear of Vega’s 2003 Toyota.
 
As a result of the accident, a 30-year-old woman in the Toyota and presumably her 9-year-old daughter died at the scene. Meanwhile, 25-year-old Vega and a 4-year-old girl in the Toyota sustained minor injuries.
 
Following the incident, Torres, of Modesto, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police investigations. At this time, DUI has been ruled out as a possible cause of the accident. However, if anyone has more information about this fatal crash, please contact the CHP.
