DUI Driver Causes Head-On Crash in Moreno Valley Killing Deputy and His Daughter

 
MORENO VALLEY, CA (November 15, 2022) – Daniel Jacks Jr. and Hannah Jacks both died in a DUI head-on crash in Moreno Valley Sunday evening on November 13.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:00 p.m. on Gilman Springs Road, just east of Bridge Street. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, 47-year-old Scott Bales of Moreno Valley was driving a Chevrolet Silverado with a front-seat passenger going westbound on Gilman Springs. At the same time, a Honda Insight driven by Jacks Jr. approached from the opposite direction on the two-lane corridor, where there is no barrier forming a center median, only double yellow lines.
 
The Chevrolet crossed over the divided highway and traveled into the eastbound traffic lane. It then slammed head-on into the Honda.

Jacks Jr., 45, and his 20-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were San Jacinto residents.

Bales and his passenger, a 45-year-old Moreno Valley man, suffered major injuries.

Police determined that Bales was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the crash and arrested him.

The Sheriff’s Department said Jacks Jr. was a corporal at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
