Cruz Diaz Detained in Deadly Pedestrian Crash on Maze Boulevard near Madison Street
MODESTO, CA (June 25, 2021) — Cruz Diaz was arrested in a pedestrian accident on Maze Boulevard near Madison Street Wednesday.
According to the Modesto Police Department, the fatal pedestrian crash happened just after midnight. For unknown reasons, 39-year-old Diaz deliberately struck a 61-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man. As a result of the accident, the woman died from her injuries and the man survived with moderate wounds.
Shortly after the accident, Diaz left the scene of the crash but was caught by police officers after they received a tip from witnesses. Subsequently, they booked him into the Stanislaus County Jail on homicide charges.
According to the investigation, police say he intentionally tried running over the pedestrians after an altercation while the pair was inside a tent.
