Street Racing Crash on Vanowen Street in West Hills Leaves Innocent Driver Dead
WEST HILLS, CA (March 21, 2021) – A woman who died in a street racing accident Friday afternoon in West Hills has been identified by authorities.
The coroner’s office said 57-year-old Colleen Wong of West Hills died at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident happened around 4:05 p.m., March 19, in the 24000 block of Vanowen Street, between Valley Circle Boulevard and Platt Avenue.
Two to three cars were street racing when one driver lost control, crashing into the Wong’s Toyota Prius, police said.
Bystanders initiated CPR on Wong but she succumbed to her injuries.
A man was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. It is unknown if he was an occupant of either vehicle involved in the crash.
A bystander sustained minor injuries while helping pull a patient from one of the wrecked vehicles.
Meanwhile, the suspected street racer that hit Wong was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
