Head-On Accident on Highway 62 in Whitewater Kills Driver Clinton Palmquist
WHITEWATER, CA (June 3, 2021) – A motorist killed in a Memorial Day head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on Highway 62 was identified as 45-year-old Landers resident Clinton Palmquist.
The accident happened around 10:10 p.m. on Monday, May 31 on Highway 62 near Dillon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle was westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with another vehicle.
One vehicle came to a rest in the center divider while the other on the righthand shoulder at Dillon Road. One person inside the vehicle on the right shoulder was unconscious following the impact
It was unclear whether the wrong-way way driver was Palmquist or not. However, firefighters took one person to a hospital suffering from moderate injuries. Another person was treated for minor injuries. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department had to use hydraulic tools to free a person from the wreckage.
CHP officials are still trying to determine if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
