Distracted Driver Rear-Ends Car on Highway 395 Killing Christopher Dixon
ADELANTO, CA (September 21, 2022) – Christopher Dixon died when he was rear-ended by a distracted driver in Adelanto on Sunday night, September 18.
The fatal crash happened around 6:11 p.m. at the intersection with Auburn Avenue. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Dixon was stopped in the northbound lane of the highway waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Auburn Avenue.
David Gillis, a 49-year-old man from Georgia, was driving a 2015 Toyota Tundra in the same direction. He rear-ended Dixon’s 1995 Chevrolet Caprice.
The impact pushed Dixon’s vehicle into the southbound lane of the highway. A southbound 2020 Dodge Durango, driven by 33-year-old Juan Diaz-Pascasio Victorville, then broadsided his vehicle, which overturned.
Dixon suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Diaz-Pascasio and several passengers in his vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Meanwhile, Gillis was unharmed.
At this time, alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed were not contributing factors in the crash. However, distracted driving is suspected to be a factor.
