Christian Lopez Dead, Another Injured in Crash on Florence Avenue [Downey, CA]

Christian Lopez Killed in Accident on Florence Avenue and Woodruff Avenue

 
DOWNEY, CA (January 17, 2022) — An 18-year-old teen identified as Christian Lopez of Whittier died in a crash on New Year’s Day.
 
The incident happened at the intersection of Florence and Woodruff Avenues at around 4:16 p.m.
 
Reports said a car driven by a 26-year-old male resident of Chandler, Arizona drove eastbound on Florence Avenue. Then it crashed with another car driven by an 18-year-old female from Whittier. The female driver was making a turn southbound on Woodruff Avenue from westbound Florence Avenue when the incident happened.
 
Lopez, who is a passenger of the turning vehicle, succumbed to his injuries and died at a local trauma center.
 
One other person suffered minor injuries, police said.
 
Friends and loved ones planned a vigil for Lopez last Friday at the site of the crash.
 
Officers continue the investigation of the crash and there have been no arrests. They urge anyone with information to contact the Downey Police Department at 562-904-2342.
