CHP Patrol Car Damaged after Stolen Big Rig Accident on 5 Freeway in Red Bluff

 
RED BLUFF, CA (November 15, 2021) – A CHP officer sustained injuries following a stolen big rig accident on 5 Freeway, Friday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on November 12, at about 11:30 a.m. A CHP officer was reportedly chasing the big rig when the driver suddenly reversed.
 
Then, the big rig backed into the patrol car, causing major front-end damage. The impact of the collision rendered the patrol car inoperable.
 
As per reports, the driver also stole a white pickup truck and prompted a second pursuit. A short time later, the pickup truck became involved in another crash near Flores Avenue.
 
Responding officers arrested the driver, whose name remains undisclosed.
 
The CHP officer sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover soon.
 
Meanwhile, the big rig owners, Ben’s Truck and Equipment, were able to retrieve the stolen vehicle.
 
CHP will release additional information once it becomes available.
