Charles French Hospitalized, Benjamin Cathcart Uninjured, Woman Dead in Head-On Crash on Highway 299 near Whiskey Creek Road

 
WHISKEYTOWN, CA (June 9, 2022) — Charles French suffered major injuries in a fatal head-on accident on Highway 299 near Whiskey Creek Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday. For unknown reasons, 57-year-old French allowed his eastbound 2001 Ford F-150 to cross over the double yellow lines into the westbound lane. Subsequently, his pickup crashed head-on with a 2023 Volvo truck tractor driven by 29-year-old Benjamin Cathcart.
 
As a result of the crash, a fire ruptured and fortunately did not spread to nearby vegetation.
 
Soon after, paramedics responded to the scene and took French to Mercy Medical Center with major injuries, but confirmed his female passenger, who remains unidentified, deceased not long after. Both were not wearing seat belts, according to CHP.
 
As for Cathcart, he reported no injuries in the collision, which snarled traffic up until 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
 
At this time, investigators have not identified the leading cause of the crash, but an ongoing investigation should confirm any unclear details.
