4 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on 5 Freeway in Colusa County

 
COLUSA COUNTY, CA (August 23, 2022) – Celeste Gonzales was among four people who died in a wrong-way accident in Colusa County early Monday morning, August 22.
 
The accident happened just after 12:45 a.m. south of Fairview Road near Williams and the Maxwell rest area. According to the California Highway Patrol, Gonzales was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway at an unknown speed when she slammed head-on into a 2022 Nissan Altima that was going southbound on that same lane.
 
As a result of the crash, 24-year-old Maxwell resident Gonzales suffered significant injuries. Paramedics rushed her to Enloe Medical Center, where she later died.
 
Three people in the other vehicle also died. They were identified as 57-year-old Timothy McDaniels of Vacaville, 28-year-old Quincy Lovelace of Suisun City and 34-year-old Christopher Martinez of Suisun City.
 
The surviving passenger, 52-year-old David McDaniels of Suisun City, had major injuries.
 
CHP said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
