Cassandra Suarez Detained, Multiple People Hospitalized in Martell DUI Head-On Crash on Highway 88 near Eggiman Lane
MARLTELL, CA (May 26, 2022) — Cassandra Suarez faces charges in a DUI head-on accident on Highway 88 near Eggiman Lane on Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-car crash happened around 11:08 p.m. For DUI reasons, 45-year-old Cassandra Dawn Suarez steered her car into the opposing lane. Subsequently, her westbound 2018 Honda Civic crashed head-on into a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 51-year-old Felix Cruz.
Shortly after, paramedics brought Cruz, of Lodi, to Sutter Amador Hospital with major injuries. Meanwhile his 49-year-old passenger, Francisca DeJesus, suffered minor injuries.
As for Suarez and three of her passengers — 26-year-old Hayden Edwards of Sutter Creek; 26-year-old Deonna Bowman of Volcano; and 30-year-old Casey Butler of Jackson — paramedics took them to Sutter Amador Hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Suarez’s fourth passenger, identified as 27-year-old Jacob Ditty, reported only minor injuries and refused medical care.
At this time, officers have Suarez booked on two felony counts of DUI at Amador County Jail. However, the case remains under investigation. If anyone has more details on this crash, please call the CHP.
