Carlos Ramirez Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Accident on Santa Fe Drive and Ballico Avenue

 
BALLICO, CA (February 16, 2023) — A Winton man identified as 50-year-old Carlos Ramirez suffered injuries in a crash on Monday, February 13.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened at 8:36 a.m. on Santa Fe Drive and Ballico Avenue.
 
CHP Officer Eric Zuniga said Ramirez drove a 1998 Toyota Tacoma east on Santa Fe Drive. His vehicle approached the intersection with Ballico Avenue.
 
As Ramirez approached the stop sign and slowed the vehicle, a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Tyler Etharidge of Turlock struck the rear of his vehicle. CHP said the Chevrolet traveled at around 70 mph before the incident.
 
The impact caused the Chevrolet to flip over multiple times. At the same time, Toyota veered to the right, where it struck a parked trailer. Authorities said Ramirez did not wear a seat belt. He was in and out of consciousness after the incident.
 
Medics rushed Ramirez by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Etharidge did not sustain any injuries, CHP said.
 
According to Zuniga, officials believe speed contributed as a factor in the crash.
 
The investigation is still underway.
