Fatal Electric Scooter Accident on 80 Freeway in Sacramento, Carlos Chavez Hit and Killed

SACRAMENTO, CA (July 6, 2021) – A man was killed in an electric scooter accident on 80 Freeway in Sacramento early Saturday morning, July 3.

The accident happened around 3:00 a.m. south of the American River Bridge. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 31-year-old man was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on 80 Freeway in the second lane. However, he crashed into the 21-year-old Sacramento man who was riding the electric scooter.

The driver of the Altima pulled over after the collision, called 911 and waited for CHP to arrive. Paramedics arrived soon after and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the Sacramento resident as 21-year-old Carlos Chavez.

The electric scooter was heavily damaged after the crash.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. However, an investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
