RED BLUFF, CA (September 20, 2021) – Police identified Carlos Sonney Beltazar as the victim who died in a DUI accident on Luther Road on September 15.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just west of Airport Boulevard around 10:15 AM.
 
Based on an initial report, 37-year-old Brandon Spharler of Red Bluff was driving a 2005 Chevy Silverado west on Luther prior to the crash. Then, he struck two men who were walking westbound on the roadway.
 
As a result, one of the men died in the incident. The Tehama County Coroner’s Office identified him as 41-year-old Beltazar, a Tehama County transient.
 
In addition, the second victim, 51-year-old Darrin Lester Rasmussen of Red Bluff sustained major injuries. Immediately, paramedics transported him to Mercy Medical Center.
 
Consequently, officials arrested Spharler and booked him into the Tehama County Jail on suspicion of being under the influence. At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
