Pedestrian Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash on El Camino Real in Redwood City, Carl Hofstetter Arrested

 
REDWOOD CITY, CA (May 12, 2021) – Carl Hofstetter was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run crash early Monday morning in Redwood City.
 
The incident happened around 2:25 a.m. on May 10, in the 1600 block of El Camino Real, between Maple Street and Roosevelt Avenue. The Redwood City Police officers responded and found a male pedestrian suffering from major injuries. The involved driver was not found at the site.
 
Paramedics performed life-saving aid on the pedestrian, but the victim died at the scene. Authorities withheld his identity at this time.
 
A security footage from a nearby business helped officers to identify a possible suspect vehicle and driver. Around 2:45 p.m., they spotted a white 2019 Ford van, which had front-end damage, and stopped the vehicle.
 
The 69-year-old driver admitted to his involvement in the incident. Subsequently, police arrested Hofstetter on hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter charges.
