Caltrans Contractor Airlifted after Hit-and-Run on 580 Freeway [Richmond, CA]

Caltrans Contractor Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on 580 Freeway near Bayview Avenue

 
RICHMOND, CA (April 15, 2021) – A Caltrans contractor sustained injuries in a pedestrian hit-and-run on 580 Freeway, Wednesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 5:20 a.m. The victim reportedly had been preparing to shut down lanes for a construction crew detail.
 
A short time later, a dark-colored sedan hit the contractor near the Bayview Avenue on-ramp.
 
A medical helicopter transported the Caltrans contractor to a trauma center with major injuries. Authorities did not release the identity of the victim.
 
As per reports, the driver of the sedan did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the scene.
 
CHP continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the hit-and-run. Officers ask witnesses to call the CHP’s Oakland office at (510) 457-2875.
