Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Carlsbad Crash on 5 Freeway

CARLSBAD, CA (April 13, 2021) – Authorities identified the man who died in an accident in Carlsbad early Sunday morning on April 4.

He was 23-year-old Brayand Alejandro Cambell-Davilla of Imperial Beach, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident happened around 4:45 a.m. on northbound 5 Freeway, just south of Tamarack Avenue. Cambell-Davilla was driving a 2008 Hyundai Elandra when for unknown reasons, he swerved left and struck the center divider of the freeway.

The Hyundai then lost control, spun out, re-entered the freeway and came to a stop, the CHP said. Cambell-Davilla was either thrown off from the vehicle or exited on his own after the crash.

While in the roadway, two passing cars struck him and his vehicle. As a result, Cambell-Davilla died at the scene.

The two other drivers had minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing. At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident.
