Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Ice Cream Truck on West Mission Road in San Marcos

 
SAN MARCOS, CA (March 28, 2022) – A bicyclist was killed in an accident with an ice cream truck on West Mission Road in San Marcos on Wednesday evening.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:00 p.m. on March 23 near Pico Avenue. According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, a 63-year-old male driver of the Ford ice cream truck hit the 26-year-old male victim on a bike while turning onto West Mission Road from Pico Avenue.
 
As a result, the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
Witnesses told officers the Ford was turning with a green light. The bicyclist was traveling southwest across the intersection against a red light.
 
Deputies said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. They also added that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
 
At this time, no arrest has been made. Further investigation is underway.
