Man on Bicycle Dies after Car Crash in Ladera Heights, Michael Tesfai Arrested for DUI

 
LADERA HEIGHTS, CA (September 20, 2021) – A bicyclist died and police arrested Michael Tesfai after a DUI crash in Ladera Heights area of Los Angeles.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, at the intersection of Centinela Avenue and Alvern Street. According to the CHP, the 71-year-old man was riding his Cannondale bicycle southbound on Alvern Street when he made a right turn onto westbound Centinela Avenue.
 
Tesfai, a 27-year-old Culver City resident, was driving a 2019 Toyota Camry westbound on Centinela Avenue. He struck the bicyclist at the intersection.
 
The Los Angeles County paramedics arrived soon after and pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene.
 
Tesfai was treated for abrasions to his eye. Police later arrested him on suspicion of DUI and booked him at the Los Angeles County Jail.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
