Police Arrest Gerald Willis for DUI after Fatally Striking Bicyclist in Rancho Cucamonga
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA (August 23, 2022) – A bicyclist died and police arrested Gerald Willis after a DUI crash in Rancho Cucamonga early Saturday morning, August 20.
The fatal crash happened around 1:58 a.m. at Haven Avenue and Arrow Route. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the unidentified bicyclist had been riding on the shoulder of the second westbound lane of Arrow toward Haven with his juvenile son and 10 other bicyclists.
Willis, 49, drove in the same direction and allegedly struck the bicyclist from behind.
As a result, the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Police determined that Willis was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. They arrested and booked him into West Valley Detention Center on a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter.
