Alfonso Chavez Dies after Colliding with Semi-Truck in Fresno County

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (July 14, 2022) – A man died in a bicycle accident at Jensen Avenue and De Wolf Avenue early Monday morning.
 
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Alfonso Chavez of Sanger died in the crash around 3:40 a.m. on July 11.
 
The California Highway Patrol stated a semi-truck was traveling east on Jensen Avenue near De Wolf Avenue. A report indicated that Chavez was riding his bike when he veered to the left for an unknown reason and ended up in the path of a semi-truck that was approaching him from behind.
 
The front of the semi-truck hit the back of Chavez’s bike, causing him to eject onto the roadway.
 
Officials pronounced Chavez dead at the scene of the crash, according to police.
 
It is possible Chavez was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. However, the driver of the semi-truck remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
An investigation into this accident is ongoing.
