BarBara Chavez Dead in Traffic Accident on Maple Avenue and Foothill Boulevard

 
RIALTO, CA (August 24, 2022) — 70-year-old BarBara Chavez, a former Fontana School Board member, died in a crash on Sunday, August 21.
 
According to Fontana Public Information Officer Jason Delair, Chavez drove a Honda sedan at 2:47 p.m. After that, a Mercedes SUV that was driven by a man who was fleeing a hit-and-run incident in Rialto struck her vehicle.
 
Chavez traveled south on Maple Avenue when the Mercedes ran the westbound red light on Foothill Boulevard. As a result, it crashed with the Honda.
 
Medics pronounced Chavez dead at the scene.
 
Authorities arrested the driver of the Mercedes, Delair stated.
 
Chavez has been a member of the Rialto Planning Commission. In addition, she served on the Fontana School Board from 2008 to 2016. She also worked in the Fontana Unified School District for more than two decades.
 
The former member of the Fontana School Board often calls herself the “voice for minority families”. She was known as an advocate for parents, students, and the Latino community.
 
On August 12, Chavez decided to run in the upcoming School Board election in November against Adam Perez in Area 2.
