Motorcyclist Dies after Sliding into Pickup Truck on Acacia Avenue in Valle Vista
VALLE VISTA, CA (July 20, 2022) – Austun Cooley was killed in a motorcycle accident in Valle Vista on Friday evening, July 15.
The accident happened around 9:15 p.m. on Acacia Avenue, just west of New Chicago Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 26-year-old victim was riding his 2012 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Acacia at a high rate of speed.
He then encountered a Dodge 2500 pickup with a flatbed trailer attached, backing into a residential driveway.
Cooley saw the truck across both lanes, so he threw his motorcycle onto its side in an attempt to stop. He and his motorcycle then slid into the pickup.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded and found Cooley in grave condition. They rushed him to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where Cooley later died.
The 34-year-old male driver of the pickup was unharmed. Police questioned him at the scene but did not arrest him.
