At Least 2 Hospitalized in Car Crash on Skyway in Chico

CHICO, CA (May 18, 2022) — At least two people were injured in a car accident on Skyway at Highway 99 on Monday morning.

According to the Chico Fire Department, the two-vehicle accident occurred around 11:50 a.m. For unknown reasons, a man in his 60s driving a Volkswagen did not see a Subaru driver in his blind spot. As he was merging onto Highway 99 North from Skyway, the Volkswagen and Subaru collided.

As a result, the Subaru overturned twice before it rested on its side on a fence at Wittmeier Auto Center.

Shortly after, paramedics and Chico firefighters responded to the scene and extricated a woman and her 18-year-old daughter from the Subaru.

From there, paramedics brought the female Subaru driver and the male Volkswagen driver to a hospital with minor injuries.

At this time, police have much to investigate to determine the liabilities. Although, if any witnesses have information to share, please contact the California Highway Patrol.

Merging onto roads from a transition ramp can be risky. When driving, be wary of other drivers and slow down. Adapting to road conditions can help reduce the risks of accidents.
