Passenger Dies after Car Overturns in South Lake Tahoe, DUI Driver Diana Shemyakina Arrested

 
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA (September 15, 2022) – Andrew Ruiz Perez was killed in a DUI rollover in South Lake Tahoe area Sunday evening on September 11.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 7:00 p.m. near Pioneer Trail and Golden Bear Trail. According to the CHP, 26-year-old Diana Shemyakina of Antelope was driving a silver Honda CR-V northbound on Pioneer Trail when the car overturned and ended up in an embankment. It then landed on its roof.
 
Perez, a 34-year-old man from South Lake Tahoe, was in the front passenger seat of the car. He died at the scene.
 
Shemyakina suffered major injuries and was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police later arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
Further investigation is underway. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue assisted on scene.
