Three Killed, Three Construction Workers Injured after Newport Beach Car Crash on Pacific Coast Highway

 
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (May 17, 2022) — Three people died in a car accident on Pacific Coast Highway on Thursday, May 12.
 
Police identified the three victims as 40-year-old Wayne Walter Swanson Jr. of Newport Coast, 34-year-old Crystal McCallum of Texas, and 32-year-old Andrew James Chaves of Arizona, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
 
According to the Newport Beach Police Department, the accident happened at around 12:45 a.m. in the 3000 Block of Pacific Coast Highway.
 
Newport Beach police said a car traveled eastbound on the road. However, it hits a curb and crashes into construction equipment on the south side of the road.
 
Officers found all three occupants in the car – McCallum, Chaves, and Swanson Jr. – dead at the scene.
 
Three construction workers at the scene received minor, non-life-threatening injuries, the Newport Beach Police Department said. The workers were treated at a local hospital.
 
Officials closed PCH in the area for several hours during the investigation of the crash.
