Andreas Kooi Hurt in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash on Foothill Boulevard near Broad Street
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (August 9, 2021) — Andreas Kooi was injured in a hit-and-run bicycle accident on Foothill Boulevard near Broad Street Friday morning.
According to reports, the hit-and-run accident happened around 12:38 a.m. Under unclear circumstances, a 17-year-old heading westbound on Foothill Boulevard struck 23-year-old Kooi on his bicycle.
Instead of rendering aid, the teen girl fled the scene with two passengers in her vehicle. However, the two riders returned to the scene and gave statements to the police.
Shortly after around 2:00 am, officers arrested the 17-year-old after they found her car parked on a road with the help of residents. In the investigation, they learned that the damage her vehicle sustained appeared congruent with that of the crash.
Shortly after, officers charged her with hit-and-run and DUI. At this time, the crash remains under investigation. However, if anyone has more to add to this accident, please contact the San Luis Obispo police officers.
