Passenger Dies in Santa Cruz DUI Accident on El Rancho Drive
SANTA CRUZ, CA (February 2, 2021) – Authorities identified the female passenger who died in a DUI accident Sunday evening in Santa Cruz.
The accident happened around 9:45 p.m. on El Rancho Drive. According to police, 28-year-old Andrea Dark of San Jose was a front passenger of a Volkswagen Golf. The car was traveling southbound on El Rancho Drive at a high rate of speed when it veered off the roadway.
The Golf then crashed into a wooden utility pole, continued to go up a dirt embankment where it struck a tree. The car subsequently overturned back onto El Rancho Drive, blocking the roadway.
As a result, Dark suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police arrested the driver of the Volkswagen on suspicion of felony DUI. They identified him as 30-year-old Jesse Lemol Vong of San Jose. Vong sustained major injuries from the crash.
This fatal DUI accident is still under investigation.
