Alonzo Mendoza Dead in Major Car Crash on 880 Freeway near Warren Avenue

 
HAYWARD, CA (February 4, 2021) – Authorities identified 20-year-old Alonzo Mendoza of San Jose as the driver killed in a chain-reaction accident on 880 Freeway, early Wednesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 12:37 a.m. Due to unknown circumstances, a vehicle hit Mendoza’s Ford Mustang.
 
The impact of the crash caused the Mustang to spin and come to a stop on a traffic lane. A short time later, a Tesla and a Ford Fusion hit the Mustang near Warren Avenue. Then, the wrecked Mustang burst into flames.
 
Emergency crews pronounced Mendoza dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the Tesla driver to a hospital with a broken leg. As per reports, the Ford Fusion driver refused hospitalization.
 
A Sig Alert was issued at 12:53 a.m.
