Authorities Identify Bicyclist Allen Hunter Killed in Solana Beach Hit-and-Run

 
SOLANA BEACH, CA (July 1, 2021)Allen Hunter was identified as the bicyclist killed in a DUI hit-and-run in Solana Beach Tuesday last week.
 
The fatal incident happened around 10:35 a.m. on June 22, on South Coast Highway 101 near Lomas Santa Fe Drive. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and Sheriff’s Department, the 75-year-old victim from San Diego was riding his bicycle when a vehicle struck him.
 
Witnesses called 911, and paramedics arrived to find Hunter gravely injured and unconscious. Paramedics performed CPR on Hunter as they took him in an ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
 
Sadly, Hunter did not survive and died from multiple blunt force injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old driver from Solana Beach fled the scene after the crash. Deputies later found him and arrested him near the Encinitas Village Shopping Center on North El Camino Real, about six miles from the crash scene. They booked him that night into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run.
 
The suspect posted bail and no charges have been filed against him at this time.
