MADERA, CA (January 25, 2021) — A deputy suffered injuries in a suspected DUI hit-and-run crash in Madera Thursday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports about three separate crashes caused by the same driver starting at about 11:00 p.m.

Witnesses told CHP that a black Nissan pulled in front of a motorcyclist on southbound Road 26 and struck the bike. A few minutes later, the Nissan slammed into a parked car on Owens Street.

Following the second crash, witnesses saw the same vehicle at Love’s Travel Stop on Highway 99, speeding away from officers.

The Nissan then blew a stop sign at Road 27 and Avenue 17 and struck a Madera County sheriff’s vehicle that was northbound on Road 27.

The occupant of the sheriff’s vehicle, identified as Deputy Cooper, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Meanwhile, the unidentified motorcyclist from the initial crash received medical attention in a hospital for moderate injuries.

Officials identified the driver of the Nissan as 24-year-old Alexis Aguilar Zarate. They said officers found two open beers in the center console of his vehicle.
