U.S. Border Patrol Agent Dies after Hit by Vehicle in Salton City
SALTON CITY, CA (March 18, 2021) – U.S. Border Patrol Agent Alejandro Flores-Bañuelos died after struck by vehicle Monday afternoon, March 15.
The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 86, just north of North Marina Drive.
CHP officials reported a severe dust storm took place after an initial collision involving a 2017 Nissan Sentra. Flores, 35, was tending to the vehicle at the crash scene during a period of limited visibility.
Moments later, a passing 2017 Chevrolet struck Flores and the right side of the Nissan.
An Imperial County Sheriff’s Office deputy provided first-aid to Flores. Paramedics arrived soon after and rushed Flores to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
A Nissan’s passenger suffered moderate injuries. The Chevrolet’s driver was not injured.
Flores leaves behind his wife and three children. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
