Alani Aguilar Killed, Box Truck Crashes Into Cars on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa

 
SANTA ROSA, CA (August 12, 2022) — A woman died after a box truck crashed into several cars on Highway 12 near Dutton Avenue on Wednesday.
 
The Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 24-year-old Alani Aguilar of Santa Rosa.
 
Aguilar was driving a Nissan Versa eastbound when she was rear-ended by a delivery box truck driver near the Dutton Avenue off-ramp. The impact pushed the Versa toward the guardrail on the right shoulder, where it overturned and she became trapped.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:00 a.m. For unknown reasons, a box truck driver was behind Aguilar in the right eastbound lane and was traveling near the speed limit at 50-55 mph as he approached heavy traffic ahead.
 
At that point, eastbound traffic in the right lane ahead of the box truck was backed up from the on-ramp to southbound Highway 101. However, the driver of the box truck failed to notice the slower traffic ahead. As a result, they attempted to swerve to the left to avoid the Nissan.
 
However, the front of the box truck hit the back left of the Nissan. The box truck continued out of control along eastbound Highway 12 and crashed into four more cars before it overturned onto its side.
 
Paramedics transported Aguilar to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where she died. Loved ones set up a GoFundMe for funeral expenses.
 
The driver of the box truck suffered minor injuries and taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. In addition, some of the other involved drivers also suffered minor injuries in the accident.
 
An investigation is underway.
