Adelina Briones Dead, Jawed Naweed Detained in DUI Crash on 15 Freeway at Rancho California Road

 
TEMECULA, CA (August 30, 2021) — Adelina Briones died in a DUI accident on the 15 Freeway at Rancho California Road Thursday night, August 26.
 
According to reports, the fatal multi-vehicle accident happened around 9:50 p.m. For DUI-related reasons, 36-year-old Jawed Ahmad Naweed failed to navigate a curve along the Rancho California Road on-ramp.
 
Subsequently, he lost control of his 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 and drove across the northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway. There, his car veered into the path of a 2016 Lexus ES 250, which struck the highway’s center divider. Meanwhile, the Mercedes collided with a 2013 GMC Acadia.
 
As a result, 80-year-old Briones, of Gardena, died in the accident.
 
Naweed, of Menifee, he fled the scene but returned afterward and surrendered to authorities.
 
Following the crash, paramedics transported two Lexus occupants to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, as well as a 15-year-old passenger in the GMC.
 
At this time, Naweed faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI and hit-and-run. If anyone knows more information about this crash, please contact the California Highway Patrol.
