Authorities Identity Driver Killed in Suspected DUI Accident in Perris
PERRIS, CA (March 15, 2021) – The Riverside County coroner’s office Sunday named the driver who died in a suspected DUI crash in Perris.
The crash happened around 5:50 a.m. Saturday, March 13, in the 24300 block of Highway 74. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2004 Honda Accord was traveling the wrong way on the westbound side of the highway. For unknown reasons, it smashed into an oncoming 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, which was driving about 60 mph.
Before the crash, both drivers attempted to avoid each other but their right front ends collided, causing major damage to each vehicle.
The driver of the Accord, 26-year-old Abraham Cortez-Rodriguez of Lake Elsinore, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
The driver of the Pathfinder, a 52-year-old Lake Elsinore man, suffered major injuries.
Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP.
The CHP said intoxicated driving was suspected to have been a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
