Mary Plount Killed in Head-On Accident on Lilac Road near Valley Center Road

 
VALLEY CENTER, CA (March 21, 2022) — A 78-year-old Valley Center resident woman, Mary Ellen Plount, died in a crash on Tuesday, March 15.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred about 5:50 p.m. on Lilac Road near Valley Center Road.
 
CHP officials said a 62-year-old man drove a gray Lexus ES 350 sedan east on Lilac Road. Then he veered into the westbound lane, to the path of a Chevrolet Bolt.
 
The Bolt’s driver, a 73-year-old man, attempted to avoid crashing with the oncoming vehicle. However, he was unable to do so.
 
Plount suffered critical injuries. She died in an ambulance while on the way to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, said CHP spokesperson Officer Hunter Gerber.
 
Medics rushed both drivers to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
 
According to investigators, neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the collision. Anyone who saw the crash can call the CHP’s Oceanside office at (760) 643-3400.
