Bicyclist Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Carlsbad, Suspect Arrested

 
CARLSBAD, CA (March 28, 2023) – A 77-year-old bicyclist was badly hurt and Lawrence Perez was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Carlsbad on Friday afternoon.
 
The crash happened just before 2:00 p.m. on March 24, in the 6100 block of Aviara Parkway. According to the Carlsbad Police Department, the man was riding his bicycle when a car hit him from behind.
 
After the crash, the motorist continued driving and left the area.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the bicyclist to a hospital for treatment of serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
 
Minutes later, patrol personnel found a damaged car matching the description of the involved vehicle parked outside an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Laurel Tree Lane with a man sitting inside it.
 
When contacted by the officers, the occupant of the car, later identified as 34-year-old Lawrence Perez of Carlsbad, displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was arrested.
 
Perez was expected to be booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
 
Further investigation is underway.
