Elderly Man Dies after Struck by Car near Ventura Road in Oxnard

 
OXNARD, CA (August 31, 2021) – A 76-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident near Ventura Road and Bay Boulevard in Oxnard early Friday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:55 a.m. on August 27, just north of Channel Islands Boulevard near Port Hueneme. According to the Oxnard Police Department, a 20-year-old Oxnard man was driving a 2018 Ford Mustang southbound on Ventura Road when he struck the pedestrian who was walking westbound in the south crosswalk at Bay Boulevard, toward the commercial area.
 
The pedestrian died at the scene. Authorities will release his name after his family members are properly notified.
 
Meanwhile, the involved driver fled the scene after the crash, but returned as officers were investigating.
 
At this time, police are still trying to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. They are also looking whether the driver’s initial departure from the scene could bring a criminal charge.
