72-Year-Old Stephen Gardner Dies in Solo-Car Crash on Highway 17 near El Rancho Drive

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (March 8, 2022) — Stephen Gardner died in a car accident on Highway 17 near El Rancho Drive on Sunday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car crash happened around 12:50 p.m. For unknown reasons, 72-year-old Gardner lost control of his northbound 1999 BMW and crashed his vehicle into a wooden post. Subsequently, the car struck another wooden post and a tree.
 
Due to the circumstances of the crash, the Boulder Creek man suffered fatal injuries.
 
At this time, investigators have not confirmed the primary cause of the crash. However, an ongoing investigation into the details should confirm more information.
