Child Suffers Major Injuries after Ejected in 5 Freeway Crash in Santa Clarita, Father Arrested

 
SANTA CLARITA, CA (March 15, 2023) – A 7-year-old girl was seriously injured and police arrested Neftali Acevedo Saenz after a car accident in Santa Clarita on Sunday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. on March 12, along the 5 Freeway near Lyons Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda CR-V and a Toyota 4Runner collided after one of the drivers made an unsafe lane change. The right front of the Honda struck the left rear of the Toyota. The impact caused the Honda to overturn, ejecting the juvenile passenger from the car.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the child to Northridge Hospital with major injuries.
 
CHP officers learned six passengers were in the CR-V which could legally only seat five. The child and another sibling were sharing a seatbelt, which is not legal in California.
 
Saens, a 35-year-old Bakersfield resident, was the driver of the Honda and the father of the victim. He was arrested at the scene for felony child endangerment.
