Guadalupe Garcia Dead, Paulo Ortiz Detained in Soledad Police Chase Accident

 
SOLEDAD, CA (November 22, 2021)Guadalupe Garcia died after being struck by a car on Nestles Road and Front Street during a police chase.
 
According to Soledad police, the incident happened Tuesday morning. For unknown reasons, 24-year-old Paulo Cesar Alcaraz Ortiz led police on a chase after driving erratically through Greenfield. After hopping on the 101 Freeway toward Soledad, Ortiz drove through the downtown area, appearing as if he tried to hit people.
 
Subsequently, Ortiz slammed into a police car and struck 65-year-old Guadalupe Garcia who was walking on Nestles Road and Front Street
 
Following the crash, Garcia suffered severe injuries and died shortly after.
 
Two officers, including Soledad Police Chief Damon Wasson, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Not long after, law enforcement arrested Ortiz, booking him into Monterey County Jail.
 
At this time, authorities have much to investigate. However, anyone with information should contact the Greenfield Police Department.
