5 Kids Struck, Hospitalized in Pedestrian Accident on Pony Express Trail near Pollock Pines

 
POLLOCK PINES, CA (June 1, 2023) — Five children hit by a van on Pony Express Trail near Oak Street suffered injuries Wednesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian accident happened around 10:42 a.m. For an unknown reason, a 21-year-old driver of a Ford E-150 van struck five children in a marked crosswalk. There are no stop lights or stop signs at the crosswalk, reports confirmed.
 
All five children suffered a range of injuries, including four patients whom paramedics airlifted to nearby hospitals.
 
Pine Top Montessori, which is where the children attend school, released a statement regarding the crash noting that they consider the students to be part of the family and that their hearts go out to the children’s loved ones.
 
Following the accident, the Ford driver stayed back and cooperated with police investigators, who determined that neither drugs, alcohol, nor speed played a role. Authorities are looking to see if distracted driving played a part, however.
