1 Seriously Injured in Head-On Accident on Highway 44 near Miller Ranch Road

SHINGLETOWN, CA (December 29, 2021) – Four people sustained injuries in a head-on accident on Highway 44, Saturday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 25, at about 1:30 p.m. Due to unknown circumstances, two passenger sedans collided near Miller Ranch Road.

The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to lose control. As per reports, one vehicle went off the embankment and the other vehicle came to rest on top of a guardrail.

A CHP helicopter transported one victim to the hospital for treatment of major injuries. Meanwhile, three other victims were hospitalized with minor to moderate injuries.

Responders closed Highway 44 for at least two hours to make way for clearing operations.

CHP believes that the ice-covered two-lane mountain highway contributed to the accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
