4 Hospitalized after Wrong-Way DUI Accident on Highway 67 [Lakeside, CA]

1 Seriously Injured in DUI Accident on Highway 67 near Mapleview Street in Lakeside

 
LAKESIDE, CA (August 9, 2022) – Four people sustained injuries in a wrong-way DUI accident on Highway 67 late Sunday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 7 at about 11:25 p.m. A Toyota 4-Runner reportedly made a U-turn at the intersection of Highway 67 and Mapleview Street.
 
The Toyota then traveled southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway. There, the vehicle collided with a Toyota Highlander.
 
Emergency crews transported the 23-year-old Toyota Highlander driver and his 29-year-old passenger to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
 
Meanwhile, responders transported the second Toyota Highlander passenger, identified as an 18-year-old victim, to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment of major injuries.
 
The 51-year-old Toyota 4-Runner driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries. As per reports, he is expected to be booked into the San Diego County jail on suspicion of DUI.
 
CHP continues to investigate the accident.
