Jason Newell Arrested for Fatal DUI Head-On Crash in Amador County

 
AMADOR COUNTY, CA (June 16, 2021) – Three people died and Jason Newell was arrested after a DUI head-on crash in Amador County Sunday evening, June 13.
 
The crash happened around 8:00 p.m. on Highway 88 near Eggiman Lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 41-year-old suspect from Stockton was driving a 2015 Infiniti. He was trying to evade CHP officers during an attempted speeding stop.
 
Newell then crossed over the double-yellow line, drove the wrong way into oncoming traffic, striking head-on into a 2021 Acura.
 
As a result, the female driver of the Acura and her passenger, a 73-year-old Stockton man, died at the scene. A male passenger in Newell’s vehicle was also killed in the crash.
 
The Infiniti caught fire and an officer pulled Newell out of the burning car.
 
Newell suffered major injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
 
Two other vehicles also sustained minor damage. One driver, a 65-year-old Stockton woman, had minor injuries.
 
Police later arrested Newell on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
