Three Drivers Hurt after Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 in Montecito

MONTECITO, CA (October 13, 2021) – Three people sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 101 near Sheffield Drive, Sunday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on October 10, at about 7:20 a.m. A gray Honda Pilot reportedly slowed down in the no. 1 lane. Then, a gray Honda Accent following behind the Pilot could not stop in time and rear-ended the slowed vehicle near a construction zone.

A short time later, four other vehicles collided in the same area.

Emergency responders temporarily closed both lanes of the highway. Clearing operations were completed at about 10:00 a.m.

Paramedics rendered aid to three drivers after the victims suffered minor injuries. As per reports, the drivers did not need hospitalization.

The majority of the drivers claim that the low, glaring sun played a role in the crash. Officers also ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the accident.

CHP continues to investigate the cause of the six-vehicle pileup.

When driving near construction sites, pay attention to the signs and comply. Also, slow down and watch out for stopped or slowed traffic. Use defensive driving techniques at all times to keep everyone safe.
